The Lucky Strike Water Tower located in the American Tobacco Campus
I always knew Durham was a great place to live. A couple years ago it was recognized as one of the best places to raise your children. Was this covered in any local news coverage? Of course not. There’s a bit of a bias against Durham but I won’t get into all that. And now, Durham is listed by Yahoo as one of the top 5 places in the nation to live. Read Yahoo Article Here
from the Yahoo article:
Once a tobacco town, Durham, N.C., has evolved into a world-class center of all things advanced. This city of 206,000, located halfway between the Atlantic coast and the Great Smoky Mountains, is called the “City of Medicine” because of its expansive healthcare industry. And although widely known as the home of prestigious Duke University, it’s also a thriving technology hub. At the same time, Durham’s mild climate allows residents to get out and explore the region’s abundant outdoor attractions. Consider hiking one of the many distinct trails and greenways or heading over to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park for an afternoon baseball game.
Its affordable, unique, has some great schools, wonderful activities for the family, great art, and wonderful independent businesses. If you’re looking to go eat at a mega chain, we do have a few of those, but our strength is the small family owned, chef run restaurant. So many people never explore in Durham, and really miss out on everything we have to offer. If you like food, Durham is your kind of town. From the incredible casual gourmet offerings at Foster’s market, to fantastic BBQ at The Q-shack, to the incredible cuisine at The Magnolia Grill which has been named one of the top restaurants in the nation. There are just too many restaurants to name, so go out and find one you love and come back and tell me about it. I always love good food and especially love supporting local businesses.
