Beirut is an interesting and wonderful band. Whenever I see them I can’t help but think to myself, gee, you can can play the tuba or accordion and still be cool. Beirut is lead by Zach Condon (vocals, trumpet, ukulele) who combines Eastern European and folk music with Western pop music. You’ll find a stage full of musicians playing instruments that are not traditionally seen in pop music, at least not a the main focus. In other words, Beirut is defintely not a guitar band. More of a ukulele band, maybe? However you would describe them, I think their music is wonderful and always makes me smile.

A video shot by someone in the crowd. You can see me on stage next to the speaker (maroon tshirt) shooting. You will also notice how the photo pit works, in case you are unfamiliar with that. basically, they escort photo/press pool in all at once (they are only allowed to stay and shoot in the pit for 3 songs then are escorted out, at which time they can shoot from the audience or move on to shoot something else). Anyway, nothing like seeing myself on video that makes me want to seriously start dieting. Yikes!

Daniel - Amazing. Love the detail and the colors. Shooting in daylight was obviously a plus.
Great shots!
Cheers,
Daniel
Chrissy - i adore that first picture. Really adore all of them and love this band. Zach is a genius. They had a massive crowd. Awesome.
Todd - Amazing. really amazing. someday i wish to be able to capture a concert as well as you.
todd - meant to ask, i like your presentation here. your collages for the images really add to it, and make it easy to see so many pictures. they seem like they’d be time consuming to do. do you have a trick for these?
Peter Stone - This show was incredible. Followed by The national was a great finish to a great day. These are fantastic. So clear and bright. You do very ice work. Keep it up. you’ve got a new fan in me.
leighann - Thanks for the nice comments.
Daniel, yes, it’s nice to shoot with more ambient light than the usual concert environment.
leighann - Todd, I use Magic Blog It Boards by MCP Actions. they are fantastic and make things fast. They allow me to include lots of images without a blog post that is too long to scroll through. I highly recommend them
