Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti [photos] Durham NC Concert Photography

Ariel Pink’s showed up for Pichfork music festival in Chicago…sort of. It was an odd performance overall. It was hot. really hot. And the stage was in full sun, so it was very uncomfortable. Add to that, I dont think Pink likes to see the sun, or daylight for that matter. He wore a terrible crackling headset mic (that would get tangled in his hair and was a constant annoyance, from what I could tell). He staggered around stage, complaining about the heat, muttering things that were hard to comprehend because of such a bad headset mic that was run through the craptastic synthesizer.

 

Pink started to stand behind various band members. I started to wonder if he was hiding from my camera or the video camera. Who knows, but it was weird. The other members of the band were awesome. They did great set despite the weird behavior of Pink. I was alf waiting for Pink to pass out from heat (or substance?). He eventually laid down in the front of stage. Ys know, if you’re hot, on a hot stage, the ver last place you want to be is one the black floor of a hot stage in full sun. Its HOT. I have to sit/kneel on it sometimes and it just heats me up even more. Hot to the touch. So, Pink pretty uch checked out at that point. he then walked off stage (there was some frustration with sound or mix?). The band seemed a bit confused. It was only half way through the set, at 28 minutes. Then the band announced that was it, and left the stage. Strange.

I wonder if I decided to blow off half my job, if I would still get paid? not sure I want to test that one out.
