Why did I ever think that it was a good idea to schedule only one day at home before jetting off to Ireland and the Snow Patrol Reworked Tour? Crazy. I think I got everything done I needed to, or at least everything important. I even addressed all the Christmas cards in the airport while waiting for my delayed flight to Philadelphia. Delayed? Delayed!!!! Oh no, I can’t risk missing my flight to Dublin. OK, no time to actually locate a mailbox, so my seat-mate volunteered to drop them in a mailbox for me. If you don’t get a Christmas card from me, now you know why. A run through the Philly airport and I’m on my flight with 3 minuets to spare. That was close. Time to settle in to a cheesy movie and relax. Wait, the movie system is not functioning. Oh well, for the bet as I could use some sleep.
I touch down in Dublin 6 hours later, tired and ready for a nap, but that will have to wait. I drop my case off at my hotel and walk about the city for 5 hours. It’s cold. Very cold. And windy. I’m too cold to photograph anything, or maybe I’m just too tired. Either way, I enjoyed taking in sights and smells of Dublin without taking a single picture. I stopped for a nice hot lunch of chicken pizza and chips. Yes, french fries as a side to pizza. As if there isn’t enough fat and calories in pizza, we need to have a side of french fries with it. But you know what they say, when in Rome … erm, Dublin.
After a long day of walking, shopping, and freezing my way around Dublin, I meet my friend at the hotel, get cleaned up, and we were off for a pint (or three) of the local elixir, Guinness. That serves for my dinner as well. Then a short walk to the Olympia for an amazing gig (review to follow later).
WHAT I LEARNED TODAY:
- Never underestimate the kindness of strangers, they can save the day.
- never assume a 2 hour layover between flights is “plenty of time”
- Fries are awesome with pizza
- Free WiFi in hotels is worth it’s weight in gold, especially when traveling abroad.
- Don’t allow your toddler access to your suitcase prior to leaving or you might arrive at your destination without any shirts.
