Silence [myworld/yourworld] Durham Lifestyle Photography

MyWorld/ourWorld is a project where I’m teamed up with a talented photographer and we each interpret the same word each month, and share those interpretations side by side. My partner is Dallas pet photographer Jenny Froh. The word for March is SILENCE. Imagine, a music photographer being tasked with photographing silence. Its the exact opposite of what I usually do. What a challenge, to photograph something that isn’t tangible.

My inspiration came while I was on a long distance phone call. Why is it that whenever I get on the telephone, my 4-year-old son suddenly wants to sit on my lap, sing, shout, and play with his loudest toys? Oh how I wished for silence!

Reindeer Section {music monday}

So, this weeks band is a long time favorite of mine. Its actually a side project which encompased 27 musicians in bands I adore. And unlike most of my Music Monday rants and raves, this band hasn’t been active for almost 10 years. I’m speaking of the amazing Reindeer Section. This “supergroup” for lack of a better term, was the brianchild of Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol and included such amazing artists as Roddy Woomble from Idlewild, Malcolm Middleton and Aidan Moffat from Arab Strap, the Asdrid boys, Eugene Kelly of Eugenetics, and many many more. Song after song I’m amazed. They recorded the first album, The Reindeer Section, in 10 days. The second album came a year later in 2002, and they took 2 weeks to record. With 27 musicians, that’s an incredible feat, and the results were astonding. I fell in love with Reindeer Section on the first listen and to this day I still rank a few of their songs as my all time favorites.

And interesting movie shot in 2002 by has been released. You’ll get a glimpse into the process, the personalities, and the fun they all had making the second Section album. Its long, but highly enjoyable and funny. Take a look and a listen. And try to understand some of the thick scottish accents.

You can find both Reindeer Section albums at Reindeer Section

and if you’re old school and want actual plastic to hold in your hand, The Reindeer Section for sale on Amazon
